The carriage shed is designed as an entirely timber structure. Simple, robust joinery joints enable precise assembly whilst also making the structure largely reversible. The joints remain visible and follow the principle of a clear, comprehensible design.
→| The construction follows the principle of simple joinery: robust, straightforward and reversible.
TIMBER CONSTRUCTION – CARPENTRY JOINTS – REVERSIBILITY – CARBONISATION – WEATHER PROTECTION – MATERIALITY
The façade consists of vertical, carbonised wooden battens. Carbonisation gives the timber a durable surface that protects the structure from the elements whilst also forming a dark, almost graphic outer skin.
Inside, the timber remains untreated. This creates a deliberate contrast between the protected, dark exterior and the light, warm timber surfaces inside. The structure and material remain clearly visible and define the atmosphere of the space.
